It is mainly used as a humectant in dental hygiene products, helping the mixture retain its fluid appearance after opening, but also for its non-cariogenic sweetening power. In cosmetics, it is quite often found in creams due to its good moisturising capacity. In food, it is widely used as additive E420, as well as a sweetener for diabetics, and in syrups in both dietetics and pharmacies.
