Description
It is used in tropical fish aquaculture to treat fungal infections. It can also be effective for treating fish infected with the protozoan parasite Ichthyophthirius multifiliis.
It is primarily used to protect newly laid fish eggs against fungal or bacterial infection. This is useful for the artificial incubation of fish eggs.
Methylene blue is highly effective when used as a “medicated fish bath” for the treatment of ammonia, nitrite, and cyanide poisoning, as well as for the topical and internal treatment of injured or sick fish as a “first response.”
