Description

Methylene chloride is a colorless liquid with the chemical formula CH2Cl2, possessing a slightly sweet aroma, and is also known as dichloromethane. Methylene chloride does not occur naturally in the environment.
It is widely used as a solvent, both industrially and on a laboratory scale, or for removing paint or cleaning various computer parts. It can also be found in some aerosols and pesticides and is used in the manufacture of photographic films. It is also used in the production of gel removers. It is a compound widely used as an intermediate in various organic synthesis pathways.
