Description
Butyl acetate (C6H12O2) is obtained by direct esterification of acetic acid with butyl alcohol in the presence of a catalyst.
It is a colourless liquid with a fruity odour, soluble in alcohol, ether and hydrocarbons. It is slightly soluble in water. Lighter than water.
Uses:
– Nitrocellulose solvent.
– Lacquers; varnishes; plastics; safety glass; perfumes.
– Production of printing inks for the graphic industry.
– Production of thinners and paint solvents
– Lacquer solvent for dyeing in the leather industry.
– Solvent for the production of dyes.
– Ingredient in fruit flavours and essences.
