Description

Sulphur is one of the 105 pure chemical elements found on Earth, in the non-metals group, with a characteristic smell and a lemon-yellow colour. It is abundant and has many uses, but in the vegetable garden its main use is as a fungicide; it also works as an insecticide and as a fertiliser and soil conditioner in small amounts. Sulphur is considered low-toxicity and is therefore permitted in organic farming. Its most effective action is by contact when it is finely micronised, and the fine powders can penetrate both fungi (powdery mildew, rust, downy mildew) and the organs of small insects (mites, thrips), as well as via the gases it can release with the action of heat.
