Description
Shellac is an organic substance obtained from the residue or resinous secretion of a small red insect called the lac bug, (Laccifer lacca) or Kerria lacca, which inhabits areas of Southeast Asia such as Indonesia or Sri Lanka. It is a very light orange color and comes in the form of fine, translucent flakes. Shellac is soluble in ethyl alcohol in proportions of 15% to 20% depending on the final finish.
