Description

Cerium oxide, or CeO2, is a chemical compound formed by calcining cerium oxalate (CeO2CCO2Ce) or cerium hydroxide Ce(OH). Powdered cerium oxide is slightly hygroscopic, and is therefore used in ceramics to sensitize photosensitive glass and polish it as an alternative to iron oxide (Fe2O3). It is also known as red optical. It can appear transparent to visible light due to its absorption of ultraviolet radiation.
