Description
Iron (II) sulphate is an ionic chemical compound with the formula (FeSO4). Also called ferrous sulphate, green copperas, green vitriol, iron vitriol, iron (II) sulphate is almost always found as a heptahydrate salt, blue-greenish in colour.
It is used for water purification by flocculation and to remove phosphates in municipal and industrial treatment plants to prevent eutrophication of surface water bodies. Large quantities of this salt are also used as a reducing agent, especially for the reduction of chromates in cement, pigmenting material supports.
