Description

It is used as a solvent for fats, oils, waxes, rubbers, plastics, lacquers, and varnishes. It is used in the manufacture of certain explosives, rayon, and photographic films; in the formulation of paint and varnish removers; in the purification of paraffins; in the dehydration and hardening of tissues; in the extraction of certain plant and animal products; and as a raw material in a wide variety of organic chemistry syntheses.
Furthermore, combined with ice and solid carbon dioxide, it can be used for cooling to very low temperatures.
