Description

It is a pigment used in artistic painting, pottery, and as one of the oldest chromatic decoration techniques. The term ‘almagre’, or red earth, gives its name to the color produced by this pigment. Almagre has also been called almánguena, almazarrón, red ochre, red hematite, and even red pencil, as it was formerly used to make marks and signs, much like a carpenter’s pencil. Almagre is a variety of red ochre, distinguished from other red ochres by being entirely natural.
